Mad World

I stumbled upon this picture today . . .

And it got me to thinking . . . about what a crazy world we live in. We're all on our own path. Some of us to greatness, others to just being what we would call normal. Then I thought of a song. This is probably one of the best covers of a song I've ever heard. Go ahead and give it a listen. Oh, btw, the video itself is kinda odd . . . what do you do I guess?

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going no where
Going no where
And the tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression
And in my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
And I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very... mad world... mad world...

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very... mad world... mad world...
Mad World
Mad World

What a mad world we do live in. So many things try and cut us down. There are so many people who think that they're better than we are. So many song lyrics that we can connect to, "Whataya want from me?" (P!nk and Adam Lambert). So many children's stories we connect to, "What Was I Scared Of?" (Dr. Seuss) tells the experience of a character who repeatedly meets up with an empty pair of pale-green pants. The character is initially afraid of the pants. However when he screams for help and the pants also start to cry, he realizes that "They were just as scared as I!" After that the empty pants becomes good friends with the narrator. Now the boy and the pants are no longer afraid of each other.

This story teaches the lesson that you should not be afraid of things with which you are not familiar. How often are we scared of just going for it?

How often do we say we can't do something? How often do we short ourselves and our own abilities? We are all unique. Children of a God in Heaven who loves us with all of his heart. As Ethel Waters said, "I know I'm somebody 'Cause God don't make no junk." My posts lately haven't been too optimistic. Then something got to me as I laid in bed today sick, God has a plan for me. And even if I feel it's tough now, I'm going to be strong. He's going to help me get through any trials. One of my favorite quotes comes from the main character of It's Another Wonderful Life, George Bailey, it says this,

"Just a minute - just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You're right when you say my father was no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Building and Loan, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was - why, in the twenty-five years since he and Uncle Billy started this thing, he never once thought of himself. Isn't that right, Uncle Billy? He didn't save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me. But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter, and what's wrong with that? Why - here, you're all businessmen here. Doesn't it make them better citizens? Doesn't it make them better customers? You - you said - what'd you say a minute ago? They had to wait and save their money before they even ought to think of a decent home. Wait? Wait for what? Until their children grow up and leave them? Until they're so old and broken down that they... Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be."

I don't know what to say to compliment that quote. I think it's genius. People are human beings. Each and every one of us. George Bailey knew what he was talking about.

Later, the angel Clarence says this wise saying, "Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?" He also says, "Remember, George: no man is a failure who has friends."

No man!! No man he says, any one who has a single friend in this world, they're not a failure.

I'm kinda rambling now . . . so I hope this post makes sense by the end! My point is . . . we live in a mad world. It's hard, it's crazy, but it's worth it!! It's going to be so worth it. You mean something! God has a plan for YOU!! Maybe we are just "normal" "average" people to the world. But not to somebody you're not. Someone thinks of you before they fall to sleep. Despite this mad world we live in, you can make a difference. You're not just a person. You're somebody, and you're loved in ways that can't be known.

May peace, love and laughter fill your heart.
Bless you,
A Little Bird
