Sooo . . . :)

I don't know how many of you actually know that for my birthday we decided to redecorate my room . . . :) But as of the moment, the painting is pretty much done!!! We (my parents and I) spent all day yesterday painting it the most intense shade of electric green. Can I say I was sceptical as the paint going on the walls was way yellower than I thought it was going to be? Yes. Can I say I was so nervous when the first coat looked terribly streaky and again way yellower than I thought it was going to be? Yes. Can I say that I still am a little bit nervous? Hopefully!! I spent the night in my sister's room, that way I didn't asphyxiate . . . and when I woke up this morning I went in there and WOW!! I'm kinda liking it. It is so intense. The yellow factor has definitely been toned down, though it didn't dissipate completely . . . It's crazy bright!! I'm excited to be able to put all of my stuff back in there, because right now the play room area is completely covered in my stuff, and I can't find anything!! I'll post pictures after my birthday because my mama decided I couldn't have my comforter and curtains until then . . . so here's to waiting for 14 more days!!! :) want to count down with me? Just go to the side and you will quickly see a counting down thingymajig. if I get around to putting one there ;) See ya!!! :) By the way, I'll have pictures of the journey of putting up the paint . . . :) It's not a whole lot, but you will get to see a little bit of the process. I did NOT know painting was that difficult! :)

My Name

My name does not exist. The name I was born with is Haylee. Hailey, Haleigh, Halie, Hayli, and Haylie are not my name. My name is Haylee. Microsoft Office tells me it is spelled wrong on every typed assignment. My teachers tell me it is spelled wrong whenever they write it on the board incorrectly. My friends tell me it is wrong when they write my name and again it is not spelled how I would spell it. However, to me my name is not wrong. To me my name fits and is perfect.
Most people’s names have some sort of meaning, or reasoning behind it being chosen. Unfortunately, mine didn’t have any meaning to my parents except that they liked it. It doesn’t have initial meaning for anyone else either. However, as I grew up my name grew to mean bold, strong, spiritual, classic, and simple. My name is clean, consistent, dignified. It’s midnight surrounded by beautiful stars and a glorious full moon. It’s a lake, calm and reflective. My name is black and white. I’m all or nothing. My name is confident and sure. Haylee becomes striking as people come to realize that I know who I am and I know where I’m going. Haylee and the Liberty Bell are synonymous, tainted from mistakes only we know about, but still beautiful in a regal way. My name has become me. It won’t change because it will fit whatever woman I become. I am Haylee.

Dandelions

Dandelions are resilient, they can grow anywhere.

They can even grow under a wall but they will not grow straight under the weight of the wall.

Remove the wall and the Dandelion will straighten up after a while.

Sometimes we are like dandelions waiting to grow straight, identify the wall in your life, tear it down and grow.

Dandelions are virtually unstoppable, they cannot be destroyed easily and for this reason they are often detested.

We should all have a little dandelion in us, we should all be a little bit flower and a little bit weed.

At one moment beautiful and delicate and at the next moment tenacious and resilient.

In their own way they are beautiful...and so are you.

Be That Change

An interesting quote comes from Ghandi, a modest man who believed in peaceable action for things he believed in. He says "Be the change you wish you see in the world." I've heard this quote a lot over the years, but recently it has shown up in my life a lot. I've had multiple people write it in my yearbook, I've had it be one of the clues on a scavenger hunt, it was the theme of this past school year, it's been everywhere. Again, I didn't think much of it, in my mind I'd think that's neat, but I'd quickly move on. Over the past few days I've had a lot of time to ponder this quote and why it has shown up in my life now. With school out I don't have the responsibilities and other burdens I normally carry. I haven't really been doing anything. So as I started thinking about the quote more and more I decided it had to have a point.

I have to be the change. I have to decide what I want from this world.

I think a lot of us have the attitude of "someone else will do it" or "I don't have to do it because someone else will take care of it." There have been a lot of studies done on this type of thing. If someone was to be beaten up and only one person was there to witness it, that one person is more likely to do something about that assault than a whole crowd of people. If there was a whole crowd witnessing the attack it is unlikely that even ONE person would call to get the police involved. There's the attitude . . . "Someone else will call the police, so I don't have to" or "It's not my problem, why should I have to deal with it?" I can guarantee that if it was you being attacked, you'd want someone to come and help you. So what if the police station got a hundred phone calls about the same attack? At least that person would be helped! We should all have an active outlook on life. Where can I help someone today? Who needs my help?

I'm going to be the change I want to see in the world. I want to see acceptance and kindness, love and compassion towards others. I'm going to be one of the people not being afraid to stand up to a bully in school, taking a stand for the weak and pushed down. We're brothers and sisters, and we should look out for each other. I'm going to be someone that people can rely on and trust. If I want people to trust others, what do I have to do? Be trustworthy myself. If I want the world to care about others, what do I have to do? Care for others myself. It's not easy. But people DO notice what you are doing. Be an example! Be a leader for good and light. Be that change.

May Favorites 2011

I love Tangled

I saw Tangled this month and I really loved it!

Jungle Green was my favorite color this month

This is the palette I used to do my makeup all month, pretty much.

I read this book and I loved how it made me think in a different way than I ever thought before.

This is my favorite spring color. It reminds me of a robin's egg and it's so cute!

Mom made the most yummy chocolate cake that I've ever had in my entire life. So now I'm in love with that chocolate cake.

This is my favorite song as of the moment. It's a great "pick me up" song :) It always makes me super happy and feel beautiful.

Want

What do you do when you want something so badly . . . and there is absolutely no way that you can get it? I have absolutely no idea. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to them . . .

I'm going crazy!!

Haylee's Favorites: March-April 2011 Edition

So . . . there are these "Favorites Videos" on youtube.com and I thought it might be fun to do kind of a blog addition of this type of idea. They're going to be sometimes beauty products, books, tv shows, maybe even food!! So for this first edition of Haylee's favorites, here we go!!

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Frostbite

I am in love with this amazing peacock blue!! It is right up my alley and I'm definitely going to have to say it is my favorite thing this month :D AHHH!!! I can't get over how amazing it is :D I've recently gotten into loving nail polish and this is just unbelievable. Two coats and it dries sooo fast it's fabulous :)

Favorite TV show this month has to be Drop Dead Diva hands down. I love this comedy, it makes me smile and I just love the quirky personalities of the characters. They are totally lovable and the story line is great :) Definitely a favorite :)

Percy Jackson and The Olympians has been my favorite reading this past month. The characters are super well developed, the plot is fast and action packed, and the writing is overall really well done. I love all the Greek mythology I'm learning and I'd definitely recommend these to other people. I'd say a must read for any teen!

For music this month, I've been listening to a lot of random things, Adam Lambert (of course!!), the soundtrack from Tangled, Carrie Underwood, Demi Lovato it's been pretty random!! But my favorite thing I've been listening to is hands down Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted album :)

I think that's all I really want to say about favorites for these past couple months. If I think of any more I'll just add them later :) I hope you found some things you might be interested in because I certainly am in love with these items!! if you liked this post be sure to tell me in the comments below so I'll know if I should keep doing them :)

"Irritating?" "Most likely." "Bring it on."

One of my favorite moments in The Emperor's New Groove is when Pacha and Kuzco are careening down a river tied to a log. Their dialogue goes something like this . . .

Pacha: Uh-oh.
Kuzco: Don't tell me. We're about to go over a huge waterfall.
Pacha: Yep.
Kuzco: Sharp rocks at the bottom?
Pacha: Most likely.
Kuzco: Bring it on.

They then proceed to scream as they go over the huge waterfall. Kuzco saying such things as "Boo yah baby!!" etc. etc.

Thinking that this is a really stupid post already? I promise, it get's better ;)

I want you to think back to a time when you were surfing the web, maybe you're just using stumble upon. It's going great until all of the sudden you have this BLASTING MUSIC that is not yours coming from your speakers . . . Irritating? Most likely. Bring it on. Wait, did I just say that? ;) Even worse? (Wait could there be a worse?!) When you're listening to your own music and they start to mix. It's awful!!

So now, I'm going to ask . . . Why would one EVER put music on their website that just plays? Why not just have a play list that the reader can play if they have any desire to listen to your music? Hmmmm . . . maybe it's because they have no clue how irritating it is . . . That's my guess.

Exhibit A http://seriouslysoblessed.blogspot.com/

Hmmm, I forgot how seriously irritating this website is. Yes, it is supposed to be irritating because it's supposed to be funny . . . but seriously, is all the flashing, twinkly lights necessary? Lady Gaga music showing up moments after you open the website? Maybe it's necessary!

K, another thing that bothers me is when people set up irritating websites on purpose . . . DO NOT, I mean DO NOT open the link below unless you want to suffer through having to click "Okay" 150 times and deal with the stupid thing insulting you. Hmmm, reminds me a bit of some things that occur in the Paper Mario series . . . we'll save that for another post though.

Exhibit B http://alvinology.com/2007/06/11/most-irritating-website-ever/

Exhibit C is about not being able to read the page you're looking at . . . I don't know what more I can say about that other than giving you a lovely example.

Could you read the text on the side? I certainly had a hard time of it. :P

My last complaint about the lack of internet etiquette would be that of the too-bright to-look-at-for-an-extended-period-of-time-backgrounds/flashing lights/irritating pictures/etc. . .

Exhibit D http://www.wonderbackgrounds.com/animated/

At the risk of you guys hating me forever I'm going to put an example of an extremely irritating picture that I'm betting someone would easily put up on the side of their blog during March. Anybody else annoyed? I certainly am . . .

Peace out!
-A Little Bird

PS: I hope I didn't offend anyone in this post. Honestly, I just went with the first example I could find and took it. There aren't so many websites out there that bother me, but when they do have these kinds of characteristics I'm less likely to ever return to the site. It's just really irritating to me. The end! :)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

I don't believe in love at first sight. Never have, probably never will. I believe in infatuation/attraction/like whatever you wish to call it. You grow to love someone. Love is comfort in silence. Love is happiness in knowing the other is happy. Love is the deepest mutual respect for each other. Love is friendship fully found. Love is beautiful, it's simple, it's hard. Infatuation is easy.

A lot of people have told me that teenagers are unable to feel love. Well, they didn't say it exactly like that, but if I was to have a friend say they were in love with some guy I'd believe they were truly in love with them. To me, saying a teenager is unable to know what "real love" is is like telling a child they don't love a dog. If they don't love that dog then what emotion do they feel towards it? Does a child not feel love towards their parent? Or their siblings? Or their friends? What is it about marriage/boyfriend/girlfriend love that excludes people, namely children and adolescents from feeling it?

I've never been able to figure it out. Dictionary.com says
Love: Noun, 1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.

Are they saying that we can't feel attachment to things? Teenagers are just as capable as anyone else to feel love. Love is an insane emotion. It manifests itself in different forms. Part of my theory of why people say teenagers don't love is that teens are still trying to figure out love. They're trying to figure out what to do about the emotions they've never really felt that way before.

I'm going to say most teenagers can't feel complete love. But I think it is a bad assumption to just say that no teenager on the face of the planet has ever been able to feel real love. Teens in the 1800s that were married by 14 and 15 were able to feel "real love" because they knew responsibility and commitment. If a teen has those two characteristics I think they are able to feel real love, but until then it's just highly unlikely.
