My Name

My name does not exist. The name I was born with is Haylee. Hailey, Haleigh, Halie, Hayli, and Haylie are not my name. My name is Haylee. Microsoft Office tells me it is spelled wrong on every typed assignment. My teachers tell me it is spelled wrong whenever they write it on the board incorrectly. My friends tell me it is wrong when they write my name and again it is not spelled how I would spell it. However, to me my name is not wrong. To me my name fits and is perfect.
Most people’s names have some sort of meaning, or reasoning behind it being chosen. Unfortunately, mine didn’t have any meaning to my parents except that they liked it. It doesn’t have initial meaning for anyone else either. However, as I grew up my name grew to mean bold, strong, spiritual, classic, and simple. My name is clean, consistent, dignified. It’s midnight surrounded by beautiful stars and a glorious full moon. It’s a lake, calm and reflective. My name is black and white. I’m all or nothing. My name is confident and sure. Haylee becomes striking as people come to realize that I know who I am and I know where I’m going. Haylee and the Liberty Bell are synonymous, tainted from mistakes only we know about, but still beautiful in a regal way. My name has become me. It won’t change because it will fit whatever woman I become. I am Haylee.
